Grants

The goal of MAP is to support and enhance arts education in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.  MAP grants funds to instructors and district staff to be used for music, fine arts, and performing arts projects throughout the district.  The Board strives to achieve parity between disciplines, programs, and schools when approving grant requests, however we also recognize that some programs may merit additional support in order to maintain a vibrant presence in the school and arts community.

Applicants submit a MAP Grant Request Form by the first day of the month for consideration at the board meeting held the second Friday of the month.  Requests are considered in the order they are received.  The board makes its decisions according to the following criteria:

  • The number of students to benefit
  • The scope and impact of the project
  • Unique opportunities
  • Long-term value
  • Other likely sources for funding (PTO’s, community organizations, businesses, etc.)
  • Other education or investment values

MAP Grants may not be used for the sole benefit of any individual teacher or student. They may not be used to fund trips or pay teacher salaries, however they may be used to support in-service training opportunities that meet the above criteria.

For the 2009/2010 school year, MAP has awarded over $23,000 in grants to support music and arts in our district. Here is where the money went:

  • WLWV Middle & High Schools – Band & Orchestra/Strings – $10,000
  • Instrument Purchase & Repair and General Program Support, $1,000 for each middle and high school in WLWV Schools (Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation Grant)
  • Bolton Primary School – Music – $4,357
  • Piano Purchase (in partnership with Bolton PTA)
  • WLWV Primary Schools – Music – $1,000
  • Production support for Primary School Choir Festival
  • Wilsonville High School – Choir – $1,000
  • Piano renovation support
  • West Linn High School – Jazz Band – $1,000
  • Instructor/Clinician Support (OCF Hallstrom Family Fund Grant)
  • West Linn & Wilsonville High Schools – Guitar Classes – $910
  • Artist Residencies – John Nilsen  (OCF Anonymous Grant)
